Web Publishing for Barrow County Teachers

If you are interested in creating a website for your classroom or a club that you sponsor, there are many options open to you.

But first a few rules

  1. Teachers who publish using sites NOT on this list should NOT be linked to a Barrow County Website until they are approved. Our first concern is the possible content our students may be exposed to via the website, so it is of the utmost importance that the sites offering publishing rights be reviewed before use.
  2. Teachers who do decide to publish should NOT have links on their website that might take parents or students to:
  • Websites that would normally NOT be linked to a Barrow County Website (commercial sites, personal blogs such s MySpace, Blogger, etc.
  • Any website that may have advertisements which would violate our CIPA policy http://www.barrow.k12.ga.us/district/html/internet_policy.html
  • Anything that solicits the viewer for money for profit. If it is for fundraising, it must be board approved as usual.

Publishing Guidelines

These need to be followed!
1. Do NOT post student first and last names together. First name last initial or use pen names.
2. Student pictures should NOT be identified with their name.
3. Student published works that are scanned should NOT include their first and last name. Use photo editing software to mask last names if needed.
4. Copyright
  • Do not publish images, videos, or music if you do not have ownership of the material or permission to use it. Make sure you cite it if you have been asked to. Typically videos on TeacherTube are permissible for embedding in most websites.
5. Provide a link back to your school's website for easy navigation
This list may be edited in the future.

Website Submission Form

For every site that you publish which will be linked to your school's website, fill out the following form.

Additionally, some websites offer plugins or 'widgets' that increase the functionality of the website. Both choices of wiki websites publishers offer add-ons that will create chat rooms. These are NOT allowed. They use advertising to pay for the service, which is of questionable content. Please use the discussion forum tabs located on each page in Wikispaces if you desire to discuss or 'chat' about topics in the wiki.

Please keep in mind that this is a band-aid solution until our school system has a means to provide system-wide access to publishing.

Here is the currently approved list of sites. You will need to scroll to see all of the data. Sites not on this list may NOT be linked to a school website. If you are interested in setting up a blog for both you and your students' use at Class Blogmeister, you will need a school code. Those can be found in this Excel spreadsheet.

If you are having difficulty viewing the spreadsheet in the window below, you can view it here as well.
